Micro Sites Or Super Site

A question that has been debated, but never solved. At one end of the argument we have those making money creating blog after blog and webpage after webpage. The other side has the people creating thousands of pages for one website. So what should you be doing?

Well speaking from personal experience both work quite well actually. First the micro sites or pages depending on how many you do. You can hit all the long tailed keywords and switch from niche to niche. If you are using micro sites then usually you will not need to pay for hosting or domain names. This is a freedom that the super site creators do not have they must stick with their one site or blog and write on topic. You can gain traffic from the keywords that are not over populated (long tailed). Usually if you pick the right keyword you only need to spend six months or so marketing and you will be on front page. Now there are some draw backs to micro sites and the biggest is traffic and income. You will not see much income from any one micro site. You must create and continue to create until you have a large enough network making a large enough income to match your online business goals. Also updating your micro sites can be quite painful. For example I developed a website called Edgar Allan Poe which has some stories and poems. Last week I went to add some more stories and could not remember where I left off and pretty much got lost. This will happen if you let the idea go on the back burner for a while and is a problem at least when I set up more than one major site.

Super sites on the other hand are easy to update (since that is all your working one) and usually can gain quite a bit of traffic. Blogs come to mind which have thousands of posts and thousands of hours of work on them. My website how to make money online is one of these. It may not be large, but reaching the top of google for the term “make money online free” has taken a years time. Now this blog and associated site will also be a super site. Instead of having keywords which bring in a couple hundred hits monthly I am going after keywords which will bring in hundreds of people each day. I love learning how to make money online, online business, and internet marketing so blogging about the subject each day is not difficult, but at times I wish I could blog about something else. This is not possible with this blog or any super site. They suck the majority of your time not allowing you to create the other projects on your mind. The pay off in my eyes is worth it though. A super site can provide a true large income hundreds to thousands of dollars monthly. You must be patient though working usually around a year or two if you want to reach the top of Google for the keywords you want to rank well for.

Now I recommend finding a good middle ground between large and small. You should have a website which you work very hard on and has huge goals. Do not get burned out though and end up letting the big site die. It is good to spend time working on small side projects whether it be a new forum, squidoo lense, hub page, article, sales page, or niche blog. set up many of these small sites as long as it does not affect the large money maker. I am building tons of pages on this blog and tons of links to the website and the blog. This does not stop me from working on my internet marketing forum or creating lenses on squidoo. I always work towards and check this website though making sure to check any new comments and working on providing the best content I can.

So you will need to find out what you like best. If you are kinda a scatter brain with new ideas hitting you all the time try micro sites. On the other hand if you have one true passion and it has a big enough audience to create a decent income then build a super site. You can make plenty of money with either one as long as you work hard each day.
